Un elemento che sembra concorrere in misura determinante alla definizione del turismo come prassi socioculturale diffusa è la tensione tra l’aspettativa della dimensione esotica e straniante da un lato, e dall’altro la tendenza all’inglobamento “autoidentitario”. Greek tradition links the death of regent Pausanias of Sparta with ghosts. In this paper, we focus on the well-known episode that revolves around Pausanias himself and a Byzantine maiden and is transmitted by Aristodemus, Plutarch and Pausanias Periegetes. The multiplicity of versions demands a comparative analysis, which we carry out taking into account the three spaces where the narrative action takes place (civic, intimate and ritual spaces). Results indicate a concordance between Plutarch and Pausanias Periegetes, as well as a dissonance between them and Aristodemus.
